Sustainable development in the construction sector is important, and we will work together with everyone to achieve the necessary partnerships in order to bridge the gaps between the role of the public and private sectors with non-governmental organizations, in order to accelerate recovery from the pandemic.

Event Overview

The 14th Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) is scheduled to take place from 6th to 8th October 2024. Building on the success of the previous edition, which was held under the patronage of His Excellency Mr. Majid Bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, Minister of Municipal Rural Affairs and Housing, the upcoming forum aims to further amplify the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainability and green initiatives. Last year’s event saw over 500 visitors, 50 speakers, and 18 sessions, highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts in realizing its sustainability goals amidst its rapid progress on green giga projects. With the support of 5 institutions and 25 partners, the 13th SGBF focused on the “Localization of Sustainable Development Goals,” emphasizing carbon-neutral buildings, efficiency, resilience, and the connection between people and place in buildings, neighborhoods, and cities.

This year, the 14th SGBF will spotlight several critical themes. Firstly, the forum will delve into “Natural-based solutions integrated and non-core objectives,” exploring innovative approaches that leverage nature for sustainable development. Secondly, it will emphasize the “effective implementation of innovative solutions,” focusing on practical strategies to integrate cutting-edge technologies and practices in the green building sector. Lastly, the forum will stress the “continuous review of comprehensive development goals,” specifically targeting Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 17 (Partnerships to Achieve). By addressing these themes, the 14th SGBF aims to further advance the Kingdom’s position at the forefront of the global green sustainable development industry.

Since its inception in 2010, the Saudi Green Building Forum has played a pivotal role in positioning the Kingdom as a leader in sustainable development. Recognized in Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council, the forum has consistently convened thought leaders from both public and private sectors to address pressing issues such as the development of green sustainable cities, intelligent building solutions, green communities, and business industry innovations. As the 14th edition approaches, the SGBF continues to serve as a vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation, driving the Kingdom’s ambitious sustainability agenda forward and shaping the future of green building and urban development in the region.

Goals

Enhance the capacity of the construction sector to adopt green development principles and solutions, and to transform into a carbon-neutral sector by achieving energy and water efficiency

Enable flexibility and integration between technology, people, and spaces, in buildings, neighborhoods, and cities

Bring together thought leaders and change makers in the construction and real estate development sectors to share knowledge, brainstorm, and network and start a dialogue about the necessary actions to accelerate and further enable sustainable developments post the pandemic era
